A fresh page, every time you open it.

Jotter opens on a blank page. There is no file dialog, no folder to choose, nothing called Untitled 1. You type; it saves itself. Everything you wrote before waits in the sidebar for the moment you want it back.

It is a native Mac app, about six megabytes, built on Tauri rather than a bundled browser. Launch is instant, and the caret is already where you left it.

What it does

⌘T
New tab Keep a few thoughts open at once, and close them like a browser's.
⌘B
Drafts sidebar Every note you have written, searchable, sorted by when you touched it.
⌘P
Quick open Jump to a draft by its name or by a phrase inside it.
⇧⌘P
Markdown preview Set per tab, so a list and an essay can sit side by side.
⌘F
Find and replace With a match count, and a case toggle when you need it.
⌃⌘F
Focus mode Tabs, sidebar and word count step aside. Press escape to bring them back.
⇥
Indent Tab indents the lines you selected; shift-tab takes it back out.
⌘⌫
Delete a draft An undo notice stays up for a few seconds, so nothing goes by accident.

Your drafts stay on your Mac.

Jotter keeps them in its own folder. There is no account to make and no server to trust. If you want the same notes on a second Mac, you run the sync yourself.

If you want it on two Macs

Sync is off until you turn it on, and there is no server of mine to turn it on against. You deploy a small Cloudflare Worker to your own account, give it a token only you know, and paste the URL and token into Settings.

The Worker keeps draft bodies in an R2 bucket and a registry of shared links in a D1 database, both provisioned for you by the one-click deploy. Sharing a note gives you a read-only page you can revoke later from any device. The app talks to the Worker from a background Rust task, so nothing blocks your typing, and the token never reaches the webview.

The source is jotter-cloud, and it stays inside Cloudflare's free tier for one person's notes. Skip all of it and Jotter still works exactly the same, offline.

Get it

brew install --cask byurhannurula/tap/jotter

Or take the .dmg from the releases page. Windows and Linux builds are there too, though the Mac is the one that gets tested.

Jotter is not notarized, so macOS blocks it the first time. Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, find the message about Jotter, and choose Open Anyway. It opens normally from then on.
